Spare The Rod

Ham’s father is a pastor. He believes that the only way to teach Ham how to behave
is to beat him. Ham, his mother and sister, Terese, are distressed by this, but when his
mother tries to intervene, the pastor hits her too. To make matters worse, a strict new
teacher starts at school and hits both Ham and Terese for not doing well in a test.
The story is told in five parts and discusses alternative forms of punishment and the
rights of children.
